SCANNER SERVICE - INSTALLATION GUIDE

Follow these steps IN ORDER:

STEP 1: Install Python
================================================================================
1. Go to: https://www.python.org/downloads/
2. Download Python 3.8 or higher (latest version recommended)
3. Run the installer
4. *** IMPORTANT *** Check the box: "Add Python to PATH"
5. Click "Install Now"
6. Wait for installation to complete
7. Restart your computer

STEP 2: Install Scanner Drivers

1. Make sure DS-530 II scanner is connected via USB
2. Go to Epson support website
3. Download and install DS-530 II drivers for Windows
4. Follow Epson's installation wizard
5. Restart your computer if prompted

STEP 3: Test Scanner (Optional but Recommended)
================================================================================
1. Open Windows "Scan" app (built into Windows 10/11)
2. Select your DS-530 II scanner
3. Try scanning a test document
4. If successful, scanner drivers are working correctly

STEP 4: Start Scanner Service
================================================================================
1. Go to: c:\xampp\htdocs\iscan\scanner_service\
2. Double-click: start_scanner.bat
3. First time will take 2-3 minutes (installing packages)
4. Look for message: "Service running on: http://localhost:18622"
5. KEEP THIS WINDOW OPEN

STEP 5: Test in iScan

1. Open your browser
2. Go to iScan Certificate of Live Birth form
3. Click the green "Scan Document" button
4. Scanner should scan and attach PDF automatically

DONE!
================================================================================

The scanner is now ready to use!

To use the scanner in the future:
- Just double-click start_scanner.bat before using iScan
- Keep the window open while working
- Close it when done for the day
